Becoming What You Need

Somatic Consensus Practices for Embodying Nonviolent Communication

30 minutes, 30 sessions, 30 days

At the heart of this virtual course are simple yet deep practices to explore NVC as a whole-body/mind, lifelong art and practice for listening empathically through tough conversations, finding common ground and speaking your truth with power and compassion.

This virtual, online immersion is deeply moving as it gently attunes us to the signals of our bodies and a present, direct, immediate experience of the life we are living. This is where we come face to face with the history we carry, our deeper selves, our greatest gifts, and the motivation to heal past trauma in order to develop new, more skillful, inclusive responses to life's challenges.

In this time of social distancing, it’s good to know that we can continue to foster emotional closeness. If anything, our interconnectedness is more apparent than ever.

Embodying the art of Nonviolent Communication’s compassionate nature requires personal, deliberate, committed, intentional practice over time that brings you back, time and time again, to rediscover what you love about the path you are choosing. Somatic training aligns physical, emotional, linguistic, and spiritual domains. It is an agent of change that can assist us in embedding consciously chosen habits into our being and in replacing old habits and patterns we have previously developed that may no longer serve us. We’ll join together for 30 days of guided somatic training, 30 minutes each day, to align physical, emotional, linguistic, and energetic domains. We stay 15 additional minutes most days for optional discussion, integration, and some good fun.

Learning to appreciate our body’s signals softens our reaction to them and an “inner guidance system” becomes available that helps us to discern real from imagined dangers and brings direction and clarity to the choices at hand. This requires us to quiet our minds and connect to our hearts and instincts so that they may inform our actions and our words. Such learning is accelerated when we do it together! When we train our attention to shift from the dramas that we perceive to the instinctual wisdom of our bodies, our bodies become a place to come home to whenever we lose our bearings. This is where we feel the quality of our deeper needs, our own integrity, empathy, authentic expression, creativity, and the ground we stand on.

This personal practice develops Nonviolent Communication into an art that is embodied and deeply felt. Learning is accelerated when we take the time and space for new skills to settle in and we do it together.
